Referencing management software
Reference management software helps you to create, store and manage references. They can be particularly useful if you are writing a long assignment and have many references.
There are many different referencing management software programs out there. Some of the most well known free programs are Endnote Basic, Zotero and Mendeley.
Here is a useful chart comparing the different reference management tools available.
Some of the advantages of using a referencing management tool are:
- The software can correctly create a citation for you
- Information can easily be edited
- All of your citations are stored in one place
- By installing a Cite as you write plug-in, the software will add in-text citations and well as create a reference list
Before using reference management software, it is important to understand how referencing works and how a citation is created. At the Australian Chiropractic College we use the referencing style APA 7. You can find out about using the style here.
You might find that you are happy creating your references manually (without a referencing tool) and that is just fine! If not, select a link below to start using one of these free reference management tools.
